I have lived in and around the the Baltimore-Washington area since 1986. Places I've lived include: Beltsville, Adelphi, Silver Spring, Washington, D.C., Greenbelt and Laurel. We're now somewhat north, in Columbia, Maryland. I am originally from the Flower City. There's a lot to do there, especially if you like Kodak, Xerox or IBM. The Rochester Museum and Science Center is the home of my favorite planetarium, the Strasenburgh. It's also the home of the Strong Museum - the best collection of dolls in a 400 mile radius, and the Little Theater, my first and favorite art-house movie theater.College State University of New York, College at New PaltzIn 1985 I received my B.A. degree in Technical Theatre after a brief flirt with Anthropology. The emphasis was on scenic design and construction, though I also had some experience with stage management, costume construction and design for theatre. I have had very little experience with acting, but you never know. University of Maryland, College Park and Monroe Community CollegeI also attended UMCP for a fleeting post-graduate semester in their Theatrical Costume Design program. I started my undergraduate years at MCC, but I was only there for a year. High School I graduated (class of '81) from the School Without Walls in Rochester, New York, where my father, Lew Marks, served as Program Administrator. Dad, along with other teachers, parents and students, founded SWW during the height of the student riots at the end of the 60's and served as its Project Administrator and Principal for SWW's first 21 years. The school celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2001. I have the singular distinction of being a teacher's brat, a student and an employee (having worked as a temp the year after graduating from New Paltz, to help out when the school's clerk quit. Genealogy I am presently researching my family tree. While my grandparents were all born in the US (in Brooklyn, NY), their parents all came from Europe. Some of the family names I am pursuing include: Marks, Beckhoff, Peston, Baumsee, Kozak, Truboff, Koroboff, Orshansky, and lots of variations on same. (God bless Ellis Island and their clerks!) |
